We’re a team of occupational health and wellbeing experts, dedicated to preventing
and managing staff absences in the education sector
Proactive not reactive
Our mission is to offer schools proactive occupational health support, helping to prevent absences before they occur.

The way we achieve this is by offering teachers and support staff a layer of health and wellbeing support. Additionally, we will help to shorten absences by rehabilitating staff and coaching them back into work. All of this means that you will have a happier, healthier and more motivated workforce, reducing the volume of absences, classroom disruption and staff turnover.

Empathetic support
Occupational health is not a box ticking exercise. Nor is it there to catch you out.

Looking after the health of your employees not only helps them to reach their potential, but also maximises their contribution to your school, college or academy. We believe in a kind, empathetic approach to wellbeing in the workplace. Our goal is to ensure members of staff are happy, healthy and productive in their job and the most effective way to do this is by offering a genuine layer of support.

Our experience
At APL Health we offer a pre-emptive and proactive wellbeing service tailored specifically to the education sector.

Staff absences are becoming increasingly financially costly, disruptive and time-consuming to deal with. We have over 10 years’ experience managing teacher absences, helping schools to protect their budget by ensuring they have a productive and reliable workforce. Every year we work with around 10,000 teachers and support staff to ensure they are fit, healthy and happy to do their job.

Why the education sector?
As an occupational health provider specialising in the eduction sector, we offering wellbeing services to schools, colleges and academies.

We understand that the education sector brings a very unique set of challenges. It’s no secret that the levels of stress and anxiety are disproportionately high amongst education workers. This can be a symptom of tight budgets, pressurised working environments and skeleton workforces that are commonplace in the education sector. We tackle such challenges by providing our clients with accessible, market leading occupational health and wellbeing support that really makes a difference.

What we do
We work with education providers and their staff to maintain a consistently high level of physical and mental health where possible.

Wellbeing at work isn’t just about medical care, it’s also about pastoral care and support. Issues are rarely resolved immediately and ongoing support and understanding is required to sort things out. Employers rarely have the time or qualifications to do this so it’s best left in the hands of a specialist occupational health and wellbeing provider. Offering specialist support will not only reduce the length of time taken off, but reduce the probability of the absence reoccurring further down the line.

What we do
We recognise that some illnesses and health issue are inevitable, and can't always be prevented.

We employ a wide range of personnel with the knowledge, expertise and commitment to fulfil the full scope of our services. Our team work with absentees to support them through their illness and help them make the transition back into work as soon as they are mentally and physically ready to do so, recommending and making any provisions necessary. I wanted to thank you on behalf of those staff you saw, and let you know I have had some encouraging and positive feedback and it was certainly viewed as a worthwhile exercise. One of our clients after receiving a day of health checks

We found the service really excellent and useful. Before you came we all thought ‘what is the nurse going to tell us that we don’t know already i.e overweight need to exercise more etc.’ yet once meeting you we were all happy to pee in a file and get full results. A great achievement, I would fully recommend that any organisation carry out this health check. Staff really appreciated it and is a good overall caring employer thing to do.

Thank you for providing the service. I think from the discussions which have ensued following the meetings, some staff are happy and it has given others food for thought…including me ! I’d just like to say that you were very prepared and we were impressed with your professionalism and knowledge. The leaflets/brochures were a big help too. We will definitely be recommending you!

One of our clients after receiving a wellbeing session

Everyone who participated was very happy with the sessions and I feel this had a positive effect on staff, from a well-being point of view. Full time staff don’t often have the opportunity to have their health assessed and only tend to visit the doctor if they have an actual medical problem. Staff felt reassured by their results and welcomed advice on any lifestyle changes that were suggested. Such was the positive feedback I received that I would like to do the same again at another site.

One of our clients after receiving a day of health checks

Thank you very much for your help and understanding during the occupational health assessment today. I had been very anxious and apprehensive about the prospect of the assessment, but your caring approach turned it into a supportive experience for me, which will help me to move forward.
